    Hello all,
Little confused on what is legal for the race. Would someone shed some light:) on what is acceptable. Any waterproof flashlight that flashes SOS?
    Thanks

For the race, you need to have what is legally required by law. Technically a flashlight will get you there. But remember batteries die, and in the slim chance you actually need a distress signal during the race, maybe a weak flashlight isn’t your best option. You can get a pack of small handheld flares from West Marine, and if you’re planning to paddle after dark, you should.

Thank you! Agreed, just looking for approved secondary ideas to back up flares.

Others include a laser flare, marine laser, and less effective but better than nothing, a chemical light stick. In day, a plastic distress mirror is great. Can be used at night if rescuer is shining light at you.
